4G Wireless Education Competition

Official Competition Rules

1.NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED. ALL FEDERAL, STATE, LOCAL AND MUNICIPAL LAWS AND REGULATIONS APPLY.

2. TO ENTER: The competition consists of two phases. In Phase One, eligible entrants will submit their entries describing the best uses of 4G wireless broadband education in 500 words or less, to be judged in accordance with the criteria described below. Entries must be submitted through the electronic form on this website according to the directions given and by clicking on Submit when finished. NOTE that once an entry is submitted, it will not be able to be retrieved for any changes or edits. All entries must be received by CLEAR™ and THE SOURCE FOR LEARNING by 6:00 P.M. (Eastern Time) on November 1, 2009. Only one entry is allowed per person.  CLEAR™ and THE SOURCE FOR LEARNING assume no responsibility for late, lost, incomplete, or misdirected entries or for any failures resulting from incomplete or garbled transmissions, including, without limitation any hardware, software or network communications failures, whether originating with sender or the 4G WIRELESS EDUCATION WEBSITE. In Phase Two, up to thirteen finalists will be chosen from among the submitted entries in accordance with the criteria described below, and finalists will be notified on or before December 7, 2009. Each finalist will be asked to submit, via email, an expanded narrative of their Phase One entry in 1,000 words or less along with a PowerPoint presentation providing a complete description of the proposed application, including all the elements required of Phase One submissions, and an accompanying script for the narration.  All Phase Two submissions must be in either Microsoft Word 2003 (.doc) or Adobe (.pdf). The PowerPoint must be the PowerPoint 2003 (.ppt) format. All Phase Two submissions must be received by January 4, 2010, and any Phase Two submissions not in the correct format will be disqualified.

3.ELIGIBILITY: The competition is open only to state certified/licensed K-12 school teachers and current faculty of an accredited college or university residing in the U.S., except Puerto Rico, who are at least 18 years of age. The competition is not open to employees or individuals receiving compensation from CLEARWIRE, CLEAR™, THE SOURCE FOR LEARNING, or THE NATIONAL EBS ASSOCIATION nor to immediate family members of, and any persons domiciled with, such employees or individuals.

4.WINNING AND PRIZES: Each submission should include a narrative of 500 words or less describing: 1.) The goals and objectives of the educational application; 2.) The description and potential size of the target audience; and 3.) The rationale for using 4G wireless broadband technology. In addition entrants will be asked to submit personnel requirements and a generic list of equipment required.  Each submission received will be judged and ranked based on the following criteria: Logic and clarity of instructional design (6 points); Effective and innovative use of wireless broadband (4 points); Impact on target audience and potential for replication (4 points); and Organization and clarity of the written proposal (3 points). Multiple entries do not increase the odds of winning because the winning selections are not randomly chosen but rather based on the above criteria. Entries will be judged and ranked by THE SOURCE FOR LEARNING and/or other judges to be approved by THE SOURCE FOR LEARNING, and THE SOURCE FOR LEARNING's decision will be final and binding. One representative each from up to three Grand Prize Winners of the competition will be invited to present their proposals at the Annual Convention of NEBSA in February, 2010, in Henderson, Nevada and will receive a scholarship to cover the winner representative's travel expenses, with an additional reimbursement of $200 to each of their schools to cover related school substitute costs. In addition, the authors of up to ten runner-up proposals judged to best meet the goals of the competition and potential for replication in educational settings will receive a $100 Amazon gift certificate (one certificate per runner up entry). All grand prize winners and runner-up proposals will have their PowerPoint presentations included in the online portion of the NEBSA Convention Program and the related websites of The Source for Learning.  Odds of winning depend on the number of entries received. Prizes are nonassignable and nontransferable. Winners may waive their right to receive a prize. Winners will be selected on or about January 25, 2010, and will be notified via telephone, U.S. mail and/or email on or about January 25, 2010. Return of prize notification as undeliverable may result in disqualification, and an alternate winner may be selected. By submission of a Phase Two entry, entrant agrees that CLEAR™, THE SOURCE FOR LEARNING and the NATIONAL EBS ASSOCIATION shall have the right to post entrant's submission in the online portion of the NEBSA Convention Program and on the appropriate website(s) of CLEAR™ and THE SOURCE FOR LEARNING until March 1, 2011, all without further compensation. In the event of a dispute as to the winner's identity, entries will be deemed made by the holder of the email account associated with the entry. By submitting an entry, submitters represent that their work is original to them and that CLEAR'S™, THE SOURCE FOR LEARNING's and the NATIONAL EBS ASSOCIATION'S use of the submission will not violate or infringe on the rights of any other person or entity, including, without limitation, any copyright rights. Winners may be required to sign an affidavit of eligibility and a liability/publicity release within 14 days of notification. Failure to sign and return such affidavit and/or release may result in disqualification and the award of prize to an alternate. Except where prohibited, participation in the 4G Wireless Education Competition constitutes entrant's consent to the use of his or her name and likeness in any media for promotional purposes without further compensation.
